Every child becomes a fish in a tank. Press the button and the hook drops, the shoal scatters, and one name gets caught. It takes a few seconds longer than a wheel, and those few seconds are the point — thirty children watching a hook fall is thirty children paying attention. Load a saved class or paste any list of names. Free, no sign-up needed to use it.
Put them back
The default. Every name stays in the tank, so anyone can be caught again — the right setting for cold calling through a lesson, where nobody gets to switch off after their turn.
Work through everyone
Each fish leaves the tank once it has been caught, so every child gets exactly one turn. Good for reading aloud, presentation order, or handing out a job each. The strip along the bottom shows who has already been had and how many are left.
How do I pick a random pupil?
Load a saved class or paste your names, open the tank, then press Drop the hook or hit the space bar. The hook goes after one fish at random and waits after each catch, so you can talk to that child before the next one.
Can I pick every child once, with no repeats?
Yes — turn Put back off and each fish leaves the tank once it has been caught.
Can the same child be picked twice?
Yes, by default. Put back is on to begin with, so every name stays in the tank.
Do I need an account?
No — you can type or paste any list of names. Signing in lets you load a saved class list instead of retyping it every lesson.
Can I turn the sound off?
Yes — there is a Sound button in the header while the tank is open.
Is it free?
Yes — The Hook is free to try and uses no Pro tokens.
