Investigate any word or phrase with your class. Type it in, pick the age you teach, and put everything about it on the board.
Vocabulary Activities puts one word on the board and opens it up with your class. Type the word you are teaching, pick the age range, and everything is written at that reading age, so it works for word of the day, a new topic word or the word a class keeps getting wrong.
There are two ways in. Word Explorer fills the board with everything about a word: its meaning, how it sounds and claps into syllables, its etymology and the journey it took into English, shades of meaning, synonyms, rhymes and a picture where a good one exists. Figure It Out writes figurative language around a word instead: similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, onomatopoeia and idioms, ready for shared writing or printed as a sheet for tables.
Which one should I use with my class?
Word Explorer when you want to open one word right up: what it means, how it sounds, where it came from and the words around it. Figure It Out when you want to write with a word, with similes, metaphors and personification built around it.
Is it good for word of the day?
Yes. Type the word before the lesson, pick the age you teach, and the board fills with its meaning, sounds, story and connections. Print turns the same page into a one-sheet handout.
Does it work for younger and older classes?
Yes. You pick the age you teach and everything is written for that reading age, from picture-led pages for the youngest to nuance and etymology for older pupils.
Is it free?
Both are free to try. Generating with Sage uses one token. Every account gets 20 free tokens, and Pro gives 50 a day.
More word work: Reading Activities for comprehension on any text, Spelling Lists to turn the week's list into practice, and ESL & Oracy for speaking and listening.
