Maths Extensions writes the deeper task, on the objective you are already teaching. Nobody is sent off to do different maths: the extension sits on the same content and asks for more thinking, which is what greater depth actually means.
There are two shapes, because a lesson needs different things at different moments. Multiple Choice Questions gives you six graded word problems, from a warm up to an ultimate challenge, each with the answer and a worked solution and a sheet to print. Open-Ended Questions gives you one open-ended challenge instead, worth about 5 to 15 minutes, printed four identical cards to an A4 page for cutting out and sticking in books, or modelled on the board with squared paper.
Which one should I use with my class?
Multiple Choice Questions when you want a set of graded reasoning problems on the objective you are teaching, with answers and a sheet to print. Open-Ended Questions when you want one open-ended challenge for an early finisher, printed four identical cards to a page or modelled on the board.
Do the questions match what I am teaching?
Yes. You type the topic or objective in your own words and pick an age range, and both activities are written to that. Nothing is picked from a fixed bank.
Can I change the wording before I print?
Yes. Everything appears in editable boxes on the preview screen, with the actual sheet beside it, so you can reword a question or swap one out and watch the printout change.
Is it free?
Both are free to try. Generating a set with Sage uses one token. Every account gets 20 free tokens, and Pro gives 50 a day.
