Bluffer — a Balderdash-style classroom bluffing game

A Balderdash-style bluffing game for the classroom

Bluffer puts an obscure word on the whiteboard and asks every table to write a definition convincing enough to fool the room. Then everybody votes. Points for spotting the truth, and points for every team your bluff takes in. It is a vocabulary lesson that plays like a game show, and it works on any topic you are teaching.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Bluffer?

A real but obscure word goes up on the board. Each team writes a fake definition on their device. All the fakes are shuffled in with the real meaning, and every team votes for the one they believe.

How does the scoring work?

A team that votes for the real definition scores 1000. A team scores 500 every time another team falls for its fake. You cannot vote for your own, so a dull definition scores nothing.

Do pupils need a device each?

No. Bluffer is a team game, so it is one device per table. Two or three pupils sit together, talk the definition through and type it once. The device is given a team crest automatically, so there is nothing to choose.

Can I choose the words?

Yes. Type a topic and Sage finds words to fit it, or paste your own list of words and Sage just looks up the meanings. Every word and definition can be edited on the preview screen before the game starts.

How do pupils join?

They scan the QR code on the board, or go to sageteachers.com/join and type the four-digit code. Nothing to install and no account.
