Because the alternative is what teachers are doing at the moment: searching for “merge PDF” on a school laptop and clicking whichever advert-funded site is at the top that week. Those sites work, mostly. They also upload your file to somebody else’s server, put a countdown in front of the download, and are blocked on about half of school networks.
Everything here runs inside your browser instead. The file is read off your disk, changed in memory and written back to your downloads folder without being sent anywhere — which you can check by disconnecting the wi-fi after the page has loaded and watching it carry on working.
They are free to try. Opening any tool, adding your files and seeing exactly what will come out costs nothing and needs no account. Saving the finished file spends one of the twenty free goes every teacher gets, and after that it is part of the Pro subscription. There is no watermark on anything, at any point.
The two that get mixed up are merging and organising. Merging only ever adds — several files becoming one. Organising only ever changes what is already there — taking pages out, dropping them, or putting them in a different order. If you are joining things, start with Merge; if you are trimming or reordering, start with Organise. Doing both is normal: merge first, then organise the result.
