Type the letters, words or sentences you want practised, one per slide, and Cursive builds two things from them at once: a whiteboard you can model on, and an A4 practice sheet you can print. Up to twelve slides a set, lower case or capitals. The preview shows the board and the sheet side by side, and what you see there is exactly what prints. Set how many example, trace-over and blank lines each slide gets, then Print, or Launch it on the board.
That is the difference from the worksheet generators you will find on the same search. They give you a sheet. This gives you the sheet and the lesson in front of it, from the same set of words, and the guide lines on the board are the guide lines on the paper.
My class came back from the summer with handwriting that had slipped a long way from where it was in July, and it was the same across the year group, so we had a push to get it back. They are ten. We started with Letters, one at a time, for the ones that had been mistaught, learned wrong or just drifted over the holiday. Then Words, to bring back the flow of joining. Then the sheets, with the example lines, the traced lines and the free lines, so they could put it all together on their own.
The letters that catch children out are the awkward joins: z, and a double s. The letter that catches me out is e, every time, which is why I like modelling on the board with the letter already drawn underneath. If you have not done handwriting for a half term and the whole class needs a refresher, this is the tool. You do not need to commit to a scheme to fix a term's drift.
Launch puts each slide huge on the board on the same four guide lines. A single letter is drawn with its lead-in and exit strokes, the way it sits inside a word, rather than floating on its own, because the strokes are what a class actually has to learn. Capitals stay unjoined, as they should. Pick a pen colour, set the size, and write over the model with your finger or the board pen, so the class watches the stroke order happen. Size minus and plus shrinks or grows the letter, Clear wipes your ink and keeps the model, Screenshot saves the board with your marks on it, and the arrow keys step through the slides.
The joined face is Playwrite GB Joined, from the Playwrite family designed for the way handwriting is taught in Great Britain: entry and exit strokes on lower-case letters, capitals unjoined. Schemes differ in the details of a join, so if yours forms a particular letter differently, model that letter your way on the board over the guide lines and the sheet's lines still match.
Not for a refresher. The subscription schemes are built for teaching handwriting from scratch across a whole school, and they charge for it. Any class that has started joining, which in England is usually Year 2 or 3 and in the US second or third grade, right up to the top of primary. A younger class still forming single letters gets the letter big on the board with its strokes, which is the modelling they need. The oldest classes get the sheets, for spelling words, names and the sentences they keep getting wrong.
Modelling on the board is free, and so is building a set and looking at the sheet in the preview. Printing a finished sheet uses one token, and reprinting the same sheet costs nothing. How do I make a handwriting worksheet?
